Lemosho Route: Beautiful, accesible, scenic.
Lemosho route offers spectacular views of the mountain from the western side. It has the highest success rate to the summit from all the routes as it gives the most time for acclimatization.
ITINERARY
Day 01: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. You will be met by our staff who will transfer you to your hotel. That same night or early the next morning, you will receive a full pre-climbing briefing. The private transfer to the hotel will take approximately one hour.
Day 02: Lemosho to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Early in the morning, around 8:00 am, we will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the Lemosho Park Gate for registration. We will start our ascent along the tropical rainforest trail, from 2200m to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp site at 2895m. We will stay here overnight. Hiking time: 3-4 hours.
Day 03: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
Today's hike will take 6-8 hours. We will ascend steadily from forest vegetation to the moorland and heath zone, reaching the rim of the Shira Plateau. The wilderness and spectacular scenery of the Shira Plateau and the majestic Kilimanjaro are best seen from here. The elevation will range from 2650m to 3600m.
Day 04: Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp
The trail is gentle and gradual, passing through moorland and giant heath with beautiful flowers on the way to Shira 2. We might walk to the Cathedral Point at an elevation of 3872m before reaching Shira 2 Camp at 3850m. Enjoy views of Mt. Meru floating on the clouds. Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
Day 05: Shira 2 to Barranco Camp
We will leave the moorland zone and Shira Plateau behind, heading into the alpine desert. After walking to the Lava Tower beneath the Arrow Glaciers and having lunch, we will descend to the bottom of Barranco Valley at 3900m. The hike will take 6-8 hours.
Day 06: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
We will start the day with short scrambles where climbing techniques are applied, ascending from around 3900m to the top of Barranco Walls at 4200m. Most people find this quite fun. We will then cross over scree ridges to Karanga Valley and up to Karanga Camp at 3950m, where we will stay overnight.
Day 07: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
We will walk over the alpine desert from Karanga Camp at 3950m to Barafu Camp at 4672m. The hike will take 3-4 hours. This is the summit base camp. You will have now completed the Southern Circuit, offering views of the two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo from different angles.
Day 08: Barafu Camp to the Summit to Mweka Camp
At around 23:39 pm, you will be woken up with tea and snacks. We will start the trek around 00:00 am to the summit through heavy scree up to the crater rim (Stella Point 5732m). We will stop here for a while to rest and acclimatize while witnessing the magnificent sunrise from Stella Point. After an hour's walk to Uhuru Peak at 5895m, the highest point in Africa, we will quickly descend to Mweka Camp at 3100m. The hike will take 12-14 hours.
Day 09: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast, we will descend to Mweka Gate. The walk will take 3-4 hours through the tropical rainforest, leaving behind heath and Erica excels trees. Beautiful mammals, including primates and birds, can be seen on the way to the gate. After reaching the summit, you will receive a certificate from the park headquarters. Transfer to the hotel.
Day 10: After a beautiful night at the hotel, we will say goodbye. If you have booked a safari with us, we will take you to enjoy the diverse wildlife in different national parks in Tanzania.
