ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport
Upon arrival, you will meet our staff for a private transfer to your hotel. The drive from the airport takes approximately one hour. At the hotel, you will be given a pre-climbing briefing.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Marangu Gate with your mountain team. After completing the gate formalities, we will start hiking from Marangu Gate (1,800m) through the mountain forest to Mandara Hut (2,720m). You might spot primates such as the Black and White Colobus and Blue Monkeys. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with warm water for washing, followed by evening tea, dinner, and an overnight stay at Mandara Hut.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
The hike begins after breakfast, ascending to Horombo Hut (3,720m). Today's hike takes 5-7 hours over a distance of 11 km. As you leave the mountain forest and gently ascend through the moorland, the walking pace will be "pole pole" (slowly, slowly) to allow your body to adjust to the high altitude. Along the way, you'll enjoy the flora and small mammals of Kilimanjaro, with views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The weather is warmer in the morning but gets cooler as clouds gather and during the night.
Day 4: Zebra Rock Walk (Acclimatization Day)
This is an acclimatization day to help you adjust to the altitude while enjoying the weather at Horombo. After breakfast, you'll take a day walk with your mountain guides to Zebra Rock, a stunning rock formation located at a higher elevation for acclimatization. You'll return to Horombo in the afternoon for lunch and spend the rest of the day relaxing. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,720m)
After breakfast, you'll begin the slow hike to Kibo Hut, leaving the moorland and entering the alpine desert. You'll pass through giant Senecio Kilimanjari and Erica trees between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. A packed lunch and hot tea will be enjoyed at a shaded point along the way. The walk will take 5-6 hours, covering a distance of 9 km. You'll overnight at Kibo Hut.
Day 6: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak
At midnight, you'll be woken up with tea and biscuits to prepare for the summit. The trek will start from Kibo Hut (4,720m), ascending through heavy scree on a twisting and turning trail to Gilman's Point, and then continuing through Stella Point (5,765m) up to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After reaching the summit, you'll descend back to Kibo Hut for a hot brunch, and then continue down to Horombo Hut. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut (3,720m).
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
This is a much easier day, as the trail offers a relatively gentle descent back to the gate. Upon arrival at the gate, you'll meet our staff for your transfer back to the hotel.
Day 8: Departure
After a restful night at the hotel, it's time to depart. Our staff will bid you farewell. If you have booked a safari with us, we'll take you to your designated safari destination.
