ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International AirportUpon arrival, you will meet our staff who will welcome you to Tanzania. You will be picked up in a private jeep and driven to your hotel. A pre-climbing briefing will be conducted either the same day or the following morning.
Day 2: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe CampAfter a 45-minute drive to Machame Gate, where registration formalities will be completed, we’ll continue through the Chaga Botanical Garden to Umbwe Gate (1570m). Here, the trail begins, ascending up through dense rainforest on a steep, narrow path surrounded by tall trees with a canopy. The trek to Umbwe Cave Camp (2858m) will take about 4-5 hours, covering a distance of 6 km.
Day 3: Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco CampAfter breakfast, we’ll continue on a trail through rockier and steeper terrain, initially covered by trees. As we approach Barranco Camp, the trail becomes more gradual and features the unique and beautiful Senecio Kilimanjaro plant. The distance from Umbwe Cave Camp (2858m) to Barranco Camp (3900m) is 6 km, and the trek takes 4-5 hours.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga CampThe trek today is relatively short, focusing on acclimatization. We’ll climb from the base of the Great Barranco Wall to the top of the wall (4200m), then cross a view of hills and valleys before descending into Karanga Valley and finally climbing steeply to Karanga Camp (3995m). The trek takes 4-5 hours, covering 6 km.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu CampWe’ll traverse the alpine desert from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4572m). You will have completed the southern circuit and enjoy views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peak. At Barafu Camp, we’ll eat, rest, and prepare for the summit. A pre-summit briefing and health checkup will be conducted. The trek covers 4 km and takes 4-5 hours.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak then Mweka CampAround midnight, you will be woken up with tea and snacks to prepare for the summit. This is the most physically and mentally challenging part of the trek, with extreme cold and wind. We’ll start the trek to the summit through heavy scree, reaching Stella Point (5762m), where we’ll rest for acclimatization and enjoy the magnificent sunrise. We’ll then continue to Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. After reaching the summit, we’ll descend to Mweka Camp (3100m). The total trek covers 17 km and takes 12-14 hours.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka GateAfter a restful night in the forest and breakfast, we’ll descend to Mweka Gate through rainforest vegetation. The trail may be wet and muddy. At the gate, you will receive a certificate of achievement for your successful summit. Our staff will then drive you back to the hotel.
